About Plus To Minus Avaleha
Plus To Minus Avaleha is an Ayurvedic proprietary lehya — a smooth, spoonable herbal electuary set in a base of raw honey (Madhu) — prepared for Riddhish Herbals. It carries twelve classical dravyas in a single 200 g jar, led by Amalaki, the warming Trikatu trio of Shunthi, Pippali and Maricha, Musta, and purified Guggulu.
An avaleha (also written awaleha or lehyam) is one of Ayurveda's oldest dosage forms. Honey here is not just for taste — classically it is described as yogavahi, a carrier that helps the other herbs settle into the body, and as a substance with Lekhana (light, scraping) quality.
Traditional Ayurvedic Importance
This blend reads like a classical Agni-and-Kapha formula. Shunthi, Pippali and Maricha together form Trikatu, the trio praised across the Bhaishajya Ratnavali and Sharangdhara Samhita for their deepana–pachana action — kindling the digestive fire and helping the body process what it takes in. Musta (Cyperus rotundus) is a classic deepana-pachana and Kapha-balancing rhizome.
Shuddha Guggulu (Commiphora mukul) is the single most renowned Lekhana and Medohara dravya in Ayurveda — the principle of Lekhana (gentle scraping) and the use of Medohara and deepana dravyas is described in the Charaka Samhita (Sutrasthana, Ashtauninditiya Adhyaya). Amalaki and Haritaki bring a Triphala-like rasayana balance. Gokshura, Kantakari, Bilva and Gambhari are well-known classical fruits and roots, several of them members of the Dashamoola group.

Research and Scientific References
Several herbs in this formula — particularly Maricha (black pepper) and Pippali (long pepper) — are rich in piperine, a compound studied for its role in supporting the absorption and bioavailability of nutrients and plant compounds.
- Piperine markedly increased the absorption and serum levels of a co-administered compound in healthy human volunteers. — Shoba G et al., 1998, Planta Medica 64(4):353–356; PMID 9619120 (St. John's Medical College, Bangalore).
- Piperine, the major active component of black and long pepper, was identified as a potent modulator of drug-metabolising activity — a mechanism that helps explain its bioavailability-enhancing effect. — Atal CK, Dubey RK, Singh J, 1985, J Pharmacol Exp Ther 232(1):258–262; PMID 3917507.
This modern research echoes the classical role of these deepana-pachana herbs in supporting digestion. Findings were observed under study conditions; individual results may vary.
