Devdaru Churna from Riddhish Herbals is the heartwood powder of Devadaru — Himalayan cedar, Cedrus deodara, the classical ‘Divine Tree’. In Ayurveda it is Tikta (bitter) and Ushna (warming), a Vata-Kapha settling, aromatic dravya traditionally used in joint-comfort and Vata-balancing routines. It is the ready-milled form of the same cedar wood we sell whole (Devdaru Akha). Researchers have studied its plant constituents. Each pack is genuine, bill-provided material from a doctor-guided store operating since 2015.

About Devdaru Churna (Cedar Wood Powder)

Devadaru — Cedrus deodara, the Himalayan cedar — is one of the most revered trees of the classical tradition, its very name meaning ‘wood of the gods’. This churna is the heartwood, finely milled so it is easy to measure and mix, carrying the warm, resinous cedar aroma of the wood.

Riddhish Herbals supplies it as clean single-material cedar wood powder under our doctor-guided selection standard, with a bill on every order. For those who prefer to simmer a home decoction, the same wood is available whole as Devdaru Akha.

Traditional Ayurvedic Importance

Classical texts (Bhavaprakasha Nighantu, under Devadaru) describe the wood as Tikta (bitter), Ushna (warming), Laghu and Snigdha, Vata-Kapha settling, with Shothahara (swelling-easing) and Lekhana qualities. It is a widely used Vatahara dravya, named in many classical Vata-settling oils and decoctions.

In classical practice the wood is turned to for Vata-related discomfort and for the ease of the joints, always within a physician-guided routine. As a churna it is taken with a suitable anupana, or blended into pastes and medicated preparations, with the amount chosen by a Vaidya to suit each person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Devdaru Churna?

It is the heartwood powder of Devadaru (Himalayan cedar, Cedrus deodara), the classical ‘Divine Tree’ — a Tikta (bitter), Ushna (warming) Vatahara wood, finely milled.

Is Devdaru Churna the same as Devdaru Akha?

It is the same wood (Cedrus deodara) in two forms: Churna is the ready-milled powder; Akha is the whole wood for home decoction. Choose Churna for convenience, Akha for kwath.

What are the alternate names of Devadaru?

Devadaru or Suradaru or Bhadradaru (Sanskrit), Deodar or Devdar (Hindi/Gujarati), Devadaram (Tamil) and Devataram (Malayalam); in English Himalayan cedar or deodar cedar. Botanically Cedrus deodara.

What are its classical properties?

The Bhavaprakasha Nighantu (Devadaru) describes the wood as Tikta (bitter), Ushna (warming), Laghu and Snigdha, Vata-Kapha settling, with Shothahara (swelling-easing) and Lekhana qualities.

How is it traditionally used?

Classically about 3–5 g of the powder is taken with warm water twice daily, or as a decoction, as advised by your Ayurvedic physician.

Is this AYUSH- or GMP-made?

This is a raw single-herb wood powder in Riddhish Herbals' own pack. Any AYUSH or GMP mark would appear on the physical pack — we state such marks only where verified on the pack.

What does Devdaru smell like?

It has a warm, resinous cedarwood aroma from the natural essential oil and sesquiterpenes held in the heartwood.

Has Cedrus deodara been studied scientifically?

Yes — researchers have isolated and characterised phenolic constituents of Cedrus deodara (Ma J et al., 2024, Phytochemistry). This is shared for general educational interest, not as a medical claim.

How should I store Devdaru Churna?

Keep it in a cool, dry, airtight container away from moisture and sunlight so the cedar aroma stays fresh, and use a clean, dry spoon.
