About Gratia Sandalwood (Chandan) Handmade Glycerin Soap
Chandan — Indian Sandalwood — needs no introduction in India: the smell of prayer, of temples at dawn, of something ancient and warm. Yet few have experienced Chandan made correctly, from genuine Sandalwood attar distilled by the traditional Deg-Bhapka method.
Gratia Sandalwood is that experience in a bathing bar. Lather once and the warm, creamy, woody depth of real Chandan fills the bathroom, holds for one to two hours, and settles on your skin as you dry.
The Legacy Behind Every Bar
Gratia was born from the vision of Late Shri Akhilesh Kumar Mishra Ji, who built Govindam Flavours into an internationally recognised attar house over a lifetime of botanical research. The Chandan fragrance in this bar is the direct result of that work.
What Makes Gratia Different
Premium soaps usually fade and thin toward the end. Gratia rejects this: the Chandan fragrance is consistent from the first lather to the last milligram, and the foam performs identically throughout the bar's life.
For Every Skin Type
Dry skin sees no tightness or stripping — the glycerin base draws moisture in while Olive and Almond Oil nourish. Oily skin finds it rinses completely clean, leaving balanced skin with the Chandan fragrance remaining naturally.
The Kannauj Difference
Kannauj Perfume holds a Geographical Indication. In the Deg-Bhapka process, botanical material is sealed in a copper Deg, slowly heated, and the vapour drawn through a Chonga pipe into a Bhapka where it condenses into natural oil — so Sandalwood attar smells warm, creamy, woody and deep rather than sharp.
Research on the Constituents
◆ Glycerol is a long-established humectant in topical preparations, with published review evidence describing its role in stratum-corneum hydration, barrier function and skin mechanical properties — the property behind a glycerin bathing bar (Fluhr et al., 2008 — British Journal of Dermatology; PMID 18510666).

How to Use
Wet skin with water and work the bar into a lather between your palms. Apply to face and body, massage gently, then rinse thoroughly. The fragrance settles on skin after rinsing, so no separate body spray is needed. Suitable for daily use on face and body.
Who Can Use It
Suitable for all skin types — dry, oily, combination and sensitive — for daily face and body use. For external use only. If you are pregnant, lactating or have a known skin condition or fragrance allergy, patch-test first or consult a physician before regular use.
Safety Information
For external use only. Avoid direct contact with the eyes — rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs. Discontinue use if irritation or redness develops. Keep out of reach of children. Store on a well-draining soap dish between uses.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight on a well-draining soap dish. Glycerin bars are naturally softer than commercial bars and will dissolve if left in standing water — the softness is a sign of genuine glycerin content, not a defect. Allow the bar to dry fully between uses to extend its life.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Gratia Sandalwood (Chandan) Glycerin Soap?
A 125 g handmade vegetarian bathing bar by Govindam Flavours, crafted with genuine Sandalwood (Santalum album) attar via the traditional Kannauj Deg-Bhapka method and enriched with Olive Oil, Almond Oil and glycerin.
What makes this Sandalwood soap different from other Chandan soaps?
Most Chandan soaps use synthetic sandalwood compounds that fade within minutes. Gratia uses genuine Sandalwood attar crafted by the Deg-Bhapka method, giving the fragrance a natural depth, warmth and longevity that synthetic compounds cannot replicate.
Why does the Chandan fragrance last for 1–2 hours in the bathroom?
The Sandalwood attar is a natural botanical distillate with heavier, more complex aromatic molecules that hold in the air far longer than synthetic alternatives.
Does the fragrance fade by halfway through the bar?
No. The bar keeps consistent Sandalwood fragrance intensity from the first lather to the last milligram, with rich foam throughout its life.
Is this good for oily skin?
Yes. It rinses completely clean without heavy foam residue, leaving skin balanced rather than coated or stripped.
What are the alternate names for this product?
Also known as Chandan soap, Sandalwood soap, Sandal soap and Chandan bathing bar. Tamil: Santhanam; Telugu: Chandanam; Kannada: Chandana. Botanical name: Santalum album.
Is this available at Riddhish Herbals?
Yes. Riddhish Herbals — Gujarat's trusted Ayurvedic store since 2015 — stocks genuine Gratia soaps with bill provided and pan-India delivery.
Is Chandan mentioned in Ayurvedic texts?
Yes. Sandalwood (Chandana) is described in classical Ayurvedic literature including Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridayam for its cooling and soothing qualities in topical applications. Consult your Ayurvedic physician for specific guidance.
Has Sandalwood been studied scientifically?
Santalum album (Indian Sandalwood) has been researched for its fragrant constituents and traditional cosmetic applications. Results observed in study conditions; individual results may vary. Consult your physician before use if you have any skin condition.
