Javantri Churna from Riddhish Herbals is ground Javitri (mace) — the dried aril (the red lacy covering of the nutmeg seed) of Myristica fragrans. Mace is distinct from the nutmeg seed itself (Jayphal). In classical Ayurveda it is Katu-Tikta in Rasa, Ushna in Virya, and a Deepana (digestion-kindling), Pachana, Rochana (appetising), Vatahara and carminative aromatic spice. It is highly potent, so only a very small amount is used. Each pack is genuine, bill-provided material from a doctor-guided store operating since 2015.

About Javantri Churna (Mace)

Javantri — Javitri, mace — is the bright red, lacy aril that wraps the nutmeg seed inside the fruit of Myristica fragrans. It is one of the two classic spices this single tree gives: the aril is Javitri (mace), and the seed within is Jayphal (nutmeg). Javantri Churna is the mace ground fine for cooking and for classical use.

Riddhish Herbals supplies it as clean single-material Javitri powder under our doctor-guided selection standard, with a bill on every order. A pinch is added to biryanis, garam masala, sweets and warm milk; in Ayurvedic use the amount is chosen by a Vaidya. Because it is so potent, a very small quantity is enough. (See also our Jayphal Churna — the nutmeg seed from the same tree.)

Traditional Ayurvedic Importance

Classical texts describe Javitri (mace) as Katu and Tikta in Rasa, Laghu and Tikshna in Guna, Ushna in Virya and Katu in Vipaka, with a Deepana (digestion-kindling), Pachana, Rochana (appetising), Vatahara and Krimighna character. It is a warming, aromatic spice used in classical digestive formulations.

Because mace is warming, aromatic and strong, it is used only in small amounts and, for medicinal use, within a physician-guided routine. It is best avoided in pregnancy without advice. As a kitchen spice it is a normal, lawful culinary ingredient used in small quantities across Indian cooking.

Key Features

  • Pure Javitri (Mace) powder: the ground aril of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) — Javantri / Javitri, the red lacy covering of the nutmeg seed.
  • Mace, not the nutmeg seed: Javantri is the aril (mace); the seed itself is Jayphal (nutmeg) — two distinct spices from the same tree.
  • Classical Deepana & Rochana: traditionally valued as a digestion-kindling and appetising aromatic spice.
  • Warming & carminative: classically Ushna with wind-relieving (carminative) action — standard, lawful culinary trade properties.
  • A pinch goes far: highly aromatic and potent — only a very small amount is used.
  • Genuine, doctor-guided sourcing: bill provided with every pack; a store trusted since 2015.

Research on the Constituents

Researchers analysed the essential-oil composition of the mace, kernel and seed of nutmeg, Myristica fragrans — (Ashokkumar K et al., 2022 — Natural Product Research). PubMed PMID: 32515616

Results were observed under study conditions. Individual results may vary. This is shared for general educational interest and is not a medical claim. Consult your Ayurvedic physician before use.

Ingredients (single-material, label-verified)

Ingredient Botanical (part) Plant Part Proportion
Javantri / Javitri (mace) Myristica fragrans Houtt. (Myristicaceae) Dried aril (mace), ground 100% single material

Single-material genuine mace powder (Javitri, the aril of Myristica fragrans). No fillers, colours or preservatives added. This is the aril (mace), not the nutmeg seed (Jayphal). Confirm details against the physical pack label.

How to Use

Culinary: a small pinch in biryani, garam masala, sweets or warm milk for flavour and easier digestion. Ayurvedic: as directed by your Ayurvedic physician. Because mace is very potent, a very small amount is always sufficient; the exact quantity and anupan are matched to you by a Vaidya.

Who Can Use It

Suitable for general culinary use by adults and families in normal small cooking amounts. For medicinal Ayurvedic use, the dose is set by a qualified physician. Use only in small amounts — large quantities of mace are not safe. Avoid concentrated or medicinal use in pregnancy and lactation without advice.

Safety Information

Javantri (mace) is a potent, warming aromatic spice. Use it only in small culinary amounts; large quantities are not safe, as mace (like nutmeg) is strongly aromatic and heating. Avoid concentrated or medicinal use in pregnancy or lactation without a physician’s advice, and seek advice if you are on medication or managing any condition. Keep out of reach of children. Results may vary from person to person.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed airtight container away from moisture, heat and light to preserve its aroma. Keep the pack firmly closed after each use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Javantri Churna?

It is ground Javitri (mace) — the dried aril, the red lacy covering of the nutmeg seed, from Myristica fragrans. It is a warming Deepana-Rochana aromatic spice used both in cooking and in classical Ayurveda.

What is the difference between Javantri (mace) and Jayphal (nutmeg)?

They come from the same fruit of Myristica fragrans: Javantri (Javitri / mace) is the red aril that wraps the seed, while Jayphal (nutmeg) is the seed itself. They are two distinct spices — this listing is the mace.

What are the alternate names of Javitri?

Jatipatri or Jatiphala-patri (Sanskrit), Javitri (Hindi), Javantri (Gujarati), Jaipatri (Marathi), Joyotri (Bengali). In English it is Mace; botanically the aril of Myristica fragrans.

What are its classical properties?

Classical texts describe Javitri as Katu-Tikta in Rasa, Laghu-Tikshna in Guna, Ushna in Virya and Katu in Vipaka, and as Deepana, Pachana, Rochana, Vatahara and Krimighna.

How much Javantri should I use?

Only a pinch. Mace is very potent and aromatic, so a very small amount flavours a whole dish; large quantities are not safe. For medicinal use the amount is set by your Ayurvedic physician.

Is this AYUSH- or GMP-made?

This is a raw single spice in Riddhish Herbals’ own pack. Any AYUSH or GMP mark would appear on the physical pack — we state such marks only where verified on the pack.

How is it traditionally used in Ayurveda?

Javitri is used in small amounts in classical digestive and aromatic formulations, and is added to food to kindle digestion and lend a warm, spicy-sweet aroma; the medicinal amount is chosen by a Vaidya.

Has Myristica fragrans been studied scientifically?

Yes — researchers have analysed the essential-oil composition of the mace, kernel and seed of nutmeg, Myristica fragrans (Ashokkumar K et al., 2022, Natural Product Research). This is shared for general educational interest, not as a medical claim.

How should I store Javantri Churna?

Keep it in a cool, dry, tightly sealed airtight container away from moisture, heat and light, and close the pack firmly after use to preserve its aroma.
