Kariyatu Churna is dried Chirata (Swertia chirata), ground into a fine single-herb powder — one ingredient only, whole plant, 100%, 100 g. In Gujarati it is Kariyatu; in Hindi, Chirayata; and in the classical texts, Kiratatikta, a name that simply means "utterly bitter."

This is one of the most respected bitter herbs in all of Ayurveda, and Gujarati families have kept it at home for generations. Nothing is added — just Kariyatu, exactly as the pack says.

What is Kariyatu Churna?

Kariyatu is the Gujarati name for Chirata. Here the whole plant is simply dried and powdered into a fine churna. Riddhish Herbals offers it as a clean, single-ingredient bitter powder, milled in a quality facility and serving Gujarat since 2015.

Why Ayurveda Values Kariyatu

In Ayurveda the bitter taste — Tikta — is valued for keeping the body light and fresh. Kariyatu is about as bitter as a herb gets; the old name Kiratatikta says exactly that. The classical text Bhavaprakasha Nighantu places it among the cooling herbs that calm Kapha and Pitta, and notes two simple qualities — Deepana, meaning it supports a good appetite, and Pachana, meaning it helps the body digest food. The classical texts also describe Kiratatikta in the context of Jwara (the old word for fever) and Krimi (worms), and as a herb that helps keep the blood clean. We share these only as part of the traditional written record, not as a promise of any result.

How Kariyatu Fits Into a Normal Day

You do not need to be unwell to take Kariyatu. In Gujarat it has long been the household kaduvu — the morning bitter people reach for, especially when the seasons change, to feel fresh and to keep appetite and digestion in good order. A small pinch in warm water first thing in the morning is the traditional way. The taste is genuinely bitter, and that bitterness is simply the herb itself — many people add a little honey, or take it as advised, to make it easier.

Research & Scientific References

Chirata has been studied by scientists for many years. A detailed review looked at its long history of traditional use and the natural bitter compounds inside it, such as amarogentin — one of the most bitter natural substances known. (Kumar & Van Staden, 2016 — Frontiers in Pharmacology)

A study like this is not a promise of any result — it simply shows the plant has been looked at carefully. Individual results may vary. Always speak with your physician before you start.

How to Use & Anupan

Take it the way your Ayurvedic doctor advises. A common amount is a small pinch up to about half a teaspoon (roughly 1–2 g) in warm water, once or twice a day. Because Kariyatu is extremely bitter, begin with a very small quantity and increase slowly. A little honey can make it easier to take.

Safety Information

Use under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant, feeding a baby, taking any medicine, or already under treatment for any condition — and do not stop or change any medicine you are already on. Keep away from children. Results are different for every person.

Storage

Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and moisture. Close the pack tightly after every use.

Why is it so bitter, and how do I take it?

How is it different from other brands?

It is a single-ingredient, label-verified powder (Swertia chirata, whole plant, 100%) presented with honest classical-text references rather than tall claims, made in a GMP-, ISO 9001:2015- and HACCP-certified facility.

Is it in stock?

Yes — available now at riddhishherbals.com with delivery all over India, and a proper bill with every order.

Has Swertia chirata been studied scientifically?
