What is Karela Churna?

Karela Churna is simply dried bitter gourd, ground into a fine powder. Nothing is added to it. The pack carries one ingredient only — Momordica charantia 100%. In Ayurveda, the bitter gourd is called Karavella, and it is one of the oldest, most respected bitter herbs in our tradition. People in Gujarati homes have used karela for generations. This is that same karela, dried and powdered so you can take it easily every day.

Why Ayurveda values Karela

Ayurveda gives a lot of importance to taste. Karela is the classic Tikta (bitter) herb. The old text Bhavaprakasha Nighantu lists it among the bitter plants and notes two simple qualities — Deepana, which means it supports a good appetite, and Pachana, which means it helps the body digest food properly. Ayurveda also connects the bitter taste with calming Kapha, the heavy quality in the body. In plain words: karela is the bitter herb our elders reached for to feel light and to keep digestion working well.

The classical texts also mention Karavella in the context of Prameha — an old Ayurvedic term — along with the skin and with worms (Krimi). We share this only as part of the traditional written record, not as a promise of any result.

How Karela Churna can fit into a normal day

You do not need to be unwell to take karela. Many people simply like having one honest bitter herb in their daily routine. If you eat rich, oily, or heavy food often, a small amount of this bitter powder is the traditional way to feel lighter afterwards. Mix a little in warm water in the morning, or stir it into your vegetables and dal while cooking. The taste is strong and bitter — that bitterness is the herb doing its work, so start small and let your body get used to it. It suits grown men and women who want a plain, single-herb powder they can trust, with no mixing and no guesswork.

What is inside

  • Karela / Bitter Gourd (Momordica charantia) — dried fruit — 100%

No fillers. No colour. No extra ingredients. Just karela, exactly as the pack says.

Has it been studied?

Yes. Karela is one of the most studied plants in the world. One well-known review looked at its long history of traditional use and the natural compounds inside it (Grover & Yadav, 2004, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). A study like this is not a promise of any result — it simply shows the plant has been looked at carefully. Always speak with your physician before you start.

How to take it

Take it the way your Ayurvedic doctor advises. A common amount is about half to one teaspoon (1–3 g), once or twice a day, with warm water. You can also add it to cooked vegetables. Because karela is naturally very bitter, it is best to begin with a small pinch and slowly increase.

Safety

Use under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant, feeding a baby, taking any medicine, or already under treatment for any condition — and do not stop or change any medicine you are already on. Keep away from children. Results are different for every person.

Storage

Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and moisture. Close the pack tightly after every use.
