Trikatu Churna is the classical Ayurvedic "three pungents" — dry ginger (Sunthi), black pepper (Maricha) and long pepper (Pippali) in equal 1:1:1 measure. Documented in the Sharangdhara Samhita, it is among the most fundamental deepana–pachana (digestion-kindling) formulas in Ayurveda, traditionally valued for Agni, appetite and Kapha balance. 50 g.
About Trikatu Churna
Trikatu means "three pungents" — and that is exactly what this churna is. It combines dry ginger, black pepper and long pepper in equal measure, a formula so fundamental to Ayurveda that it appears across the classical literature. Riddhish Herbals prepares it to the traditional 1:1:1 ratio, as a single clean blend with nothing else added.
Few formulas are as widely used. Trikatu is taken on its own as a digestive churna, and it is also the working base inside countless larger Ayurvedic preparations — from churnas to vatis to avalehas — wherever the texts want to kindle Agni or carry other herbs deeper. Its reputation rests on the synergy of the three pungents rather than any one of them alone.
Traditional Ayurvedic Importance
The formula is documented in the Sharangdhara Samhita (Madhyama Khanda) and referenced across the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. Classical texts describe Trikatu as katu (pungent in taste) and ushna (heating in potency), with deepana and pachana action — it kindles agni, the digestive fire, and helps process ama (undigested residue).
It is classically valued for agnimandya (low digestive power), aruchi (poor appetite), and for kapha conditions including kasa (cough) and shwasa (breathing comfort), as described in classical literature. The Bhavaprakasha Nighantu and later compendia also describe Trikatu as kapha–medohara — balancing of Kapha and Meda (fat tissue) — which is why it features in many classical weight-and-metabolism formulations.
A further classical role is that of yogavahi — a carrier that enhances the action of substances taken alongside it. This is the traditional basis for Trikatu's modern description as a bio-enhancer. Because all three herbs are heating, the texts advise care for those of pitta constitution or with a tendency to acidity.

Research & Scientific References
Trikatu has been studied as a complete formulation. A well-cited study examined the blend and its constituents in the context of bioavailability and the enhancement of co-administered substances. (Johri & Zutshi, 1992 — Journal of Ethnopharmacology, PMID 1453702.)
Its principal pungent compound, piperine, has been reviewed for its physiological effects and its bio-enhancer role across a range of nutrients and substances. (Srinivasan, 2007 — Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, PMID 17987447.)
Standardisation work using HPTLC has profiled the formulation's piperine content as a marker for quality control of Trikatu preparations. (Peer-reviewed standardisation study, 2020.)

How to Use & Anupan
As directed by your Ayurvedic physician. Classical guidance is ¼ to ½ teaspoon (roughly 1–3 g), generally before meals.
The traditional anupan (vehicle) is honey or warm water. Taken with honey, it is classically favoured for seasonal Kapha balance; with warm water, as a simple digestive support before food. Because the blend is potent and heating, it is best started in a small quantity.
Who Can Use It
Suited to adults seeking a classical digestive churna, particularly those of Kapha tendency or in cooler, damp seasons. Those of Pitta constitution, or anyone prone to acidity, should use only a small quantity and with care. If you are pregnant, lactating, managing any health condition, taking medication, or considering it for a child, consult a qualified Ayurvedic physician first.
Safety Information
This is a strongly warming blend of three pungent herbs. Those with a Pitta constitution, acidity, gastritis, or a tendency to ulcers should use it cautiously and in small quantity, or avoid it. Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation except under qualified Ayurvedic supervision. Children should use only under guidance. Use under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic physician, especially if taking any medication or managing any health condition. Keep out of reach of children. Results may vary from person to person.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, in an airtight container.
