Bilva Taila (बिल्व तेल, 30 ml) is a classical Ayurvedic medicated oil, classically described in the Bhaishajya Ratnavali, marketed by Therachem Herbals and manufactured by Vedant Pharma. It is prepared with Bilva (Aegle marmelos, bael) in a sesame oil (Til Taila) base, together with goat milk, cow urine and water, and is traditionally used in Ayurveda for Karna Purana — filling the ear with medicated oil — as part of Vata-balancing ear care. For external use only. Application: 2–3 drops in the ear, morning and evening, or as advised by the physician. Supplied by Riddhish Herbals, Gujarat's Ayurvedic store since 2015, with a bill on every order.

About Bilva Taila and Its Traditional Ayurvedic Importance

In Ayurveda, the ear (Karna) is regarded as a seat of Vata dosha, whose qualities are dry, light, cold and mobile. Oil is its natural counterweight — warm, unctuous and steadying. For this reason, the classical texts describe Karna Purana, placing a few drops of warm medicated oil in the ear, as part of Dinacharya, the daily routine; the Charaka Samhita (Sutrasthana, chapter 5) includes it among the Vata-balancing practices of self-care.

Bilva Taila is a classical formulation — a recipe classically described in the Bhaishajya Ratnavali rather than a proprietary blend — made by the traditional method of Taila Paka, in which an oil is processed with herbs and liquid media until the liquids are taken up into the oil:

  • Bilva (Aegle marmelos, bael) is one of the most respected trees of Ayurveda and a member of the classical Dashamula group, valued in the texts for its Vata- and Kapha-balancing nature.
  • Til Taila (sesame oil) is the base. Classical texts regard sesame oil as the foremost of oils for Vata, and it is the traditional carrier for Karna Purana.
  • Aja Dugdha (goat milk) is a classical liquid medium, described in Ayurveda as light and easy to assimilate.
  • Gomutra (cow urine) and water complete the liquid media of the recipe, in the proportions of the classical method.

Because Karna Purana is a delicate practice, how often to use Bilva Taila, and whether it suits you, is best decided by your Ayurvedic physician.

How to Use

Application: 2–3 drops in the ear, morning and evening, or as advised by the physician.

Shake well before use. In traditional practice, the oil is used at about body temperature — hold the closed bottle in the palm for a minute or two; never heat it directly or use it hot. Tilt the head to one side, place the drops gently in the ear, and stay in that position for a few moments before turning to the other side. Use a clean dropper and do not insert anything into the ear canal. Your physician may advise a different routine; follow their advice over any general guidance.
