Kauchapak (also written Kaucha Pak or Kauchpak) is a classical Ayurvedic avaleha — a ghee-and-sugar herbal paste — built around Kaucha (Mucuna pruriens) seed and a Vajikarana group of herbs and classically processed minerals. It is manufactured by Nagarjun Pharmaceuticals, a five-generation Ras Shastra house, and offered by Riddhish Herbals. Traditionally placed in the Vajikarana (rejuvenative-virility) class, it is a herbo-mineral preparation meant strictly for use under a qualified Ayurvedic physician.

About Kauchapak

Kauchapak belongs to the paka family of Ayurvedic formulations — herbs cooked into a ghee and sugar base to make a palatable, nourishing avaleha. The defining herb is Kaucha, the velvet-bean seed (Kapikacchu / Mucuna pruriens), present at 20% by the label, carried in cow's ghee (Goghritam) and milk (Godudgha) with sugar (Sharkara) and a Vajikarana bouquet of supportive herbs and classical minerals.

This is a Nagarjun product retailed by Riddhish Herbals — not an own-brand item. Nagarjun Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. is an Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar (Gujarat) Ayurvedic manufacturer named after the ancient Rishi Nagarjuna, the progenitor of Ras Shastra (Ayurvedic mineral pharmacy). We share it here because the formulation contains classically processed minerals and deserves a maker with genuine Ras Shastra pedigree.

The Nagarjun Lineage

Nagarjun Pharmaceuticals continues an unbroken five-generation Ayurvedic genealogy of the Joshi family. The present custodian, Vaidya Satish Kumar Joshi (M.D. Ayurveda, 1979) — son of Ras Vaidya Harishankar Sharma (Joshi), former Principal of the Pharmacy College, Rajpipla — established the manufacturing house named after the great Rishi Nagarjuna. The company specialises in the full Ras Shastra repertoire (Bhasma, Pishti, Avaleha, Guggulu, Rasayana) and, per its own pack declaration, is a GMP- and ISO 9001:2015-certified company. This lineage matters for a herbo-mineral paka, where correct Shodhana (purification) and Marana (incineration) of minerals is everything.

Traditional Ayurvedic Importance

Kaucha (Kapikacchu / Atmagupta) is one of the classical Vajikarana seeds. Bhavaprakasha Nighantu (Guduchyadi Varga) describes Atmagupta as Vrishya, Balya, Brimhana (nourishing) and Vatahara. The Vajikarana chapters of Charaka Samhita (Chikitsa Sthana) and Sushruta Samhita (Chikitsa Sthana) reference Atmagupta within preparations intended to nourish Shukra dhatu and support strength.

Paka and avaleha formulations carrying Kaucha alongside supportive Vajikarana herbs and classically processed minerals are described in the Vajikaranadhikara of Bhaishajya Ratnavali and in Bharat Bhaishajya Ratnakara — the classical compendium referenced on the Kauchapak pack. In these texts the formula is grouped as a Brimhana-Vrishya Rasayana, traditionally valued for supporting strength, vigour and vitality as part of a physician-guided regimen. The avaleha (paka) method itself follows the avaleha-kalpana described in Sharangdhara Samhita (Madhyama Khanda).

The supportive herbs follow classical formulation logic: Sunthi (dry ginger), Lavang (clove), Dhanyak (coriander) and Kankola (cubeb) act as Deepana-Pachana aromatics that aid absorption; Gokshura and Bala add Balya (strengthening) character; Akarkarabha (Akarkara) is a classical Ushna stimulant; and the processed minerals Shuddha Hingul, Abhrak Bhasma and Bang Bhasma are the Rasaushadhi component that defines this as a herbo-mineral preparation.

  • Classical Vajikarana avaleha — a Kaucha-based paka grouped in the Vrishya-Brimhana tradition of Bhaishajya Ratnavali and Bharat Bhaishajya Ratnakara.

Research & Scientific References

Published research relates to the lead herb, Mucuna pruriens seed — not to this finished paka. It is shared for educational context and describes observations under specific study conditions; it is not a product claim.

Researchers administered Mucuna pruriens seed powder to men undergoing fertility screening and reported changes in semen parameters and seminal biochemistry under study conditions. — (Ahmad et al., 2008 — Fertility and Sterility, King George's Medical University, Lucknow; PMID 18001713)
In men assessed for psychological stress, researchers observed changes in stress markers and antioxidant measures after three months of seed-powder administration under study conditions. — (Shukla et al., 2010 — Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine; PMID 18955292)
Findings above were observed in controlled study settings on the isolated herb and do not represent outcomes for this product. Individual results vary. Kauchapak is a traditional Ayurvedic medicine, not a treatment for any disease.

How to Use & Anupan

As directed by your qualified Ayurvedic physician. Traditional guidance for a Vajikarana paka is roughly ½ to 1 teaspoon (about 5–10 g) once or twice daily, taken with the classical anupan of warm cow's milk. Because this is a herbo-mineral preparation, dose and duration must be set by a physician for your constitution (prakriti) — do not self-prescribe.

Who Can Use It

Intended for adults using it under Ayurvedic medical supervision. Not for children, and not during pregnancy or lactation. Anyone managing a health condition, taking prescription medication (including neurological, psychiatric, cardiac or blood-pressure medication), or scheduled for surgery must consult their physician before use. Because the formula contains classically processed minerals, it is not suitable for unsupervised or long-term self-use.

Safety Information

Use strictly under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic physician. Consult your physician before use, especially if you are pregnant, lactating, taking any medication, or managing any medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Results may vary from person to person.

Kauchapak is a herbo-mineral (Rasaushadhi) preparation containing classically processed minerals — Shuddha Hingul (purified cinnabar), Abhrak Bhasma (mica calx) and Bang Bhasma (tin calx) — prepared per Ras Shastra. Such preparations must be taken only in the dose and duration advised by a qualified Ayurvedic physician and must never be self-prescribed or taken long-term without supervision. Discontinue and seek advice if any discomfort occurs. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, tightly closed. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Always use a clean, dry spoon to preserve the paste and prevent contamination.
