Bal Bhadra Churna by Shree Shanker Ayurvedic Pharmacy is an Ayurvedic proprietary children's churna built around the classical Balachaturbhadra idea — a Kaumarabhritya powder of Karkatashringi, Musta, Pippali-group and supporting digestive herbs, traditionally taken with honey. Net 40 g. Use as directed by your Vaidya.

About Bal Bhadra Churna (Shanker)

Bal Bhadra Churna is Shree Shanker Ayurvedic Pharmacy's proprietary children's churna in the Balachaturbhadra tradition — a Kaumarabhritya powder classically taken with Madhu (honey). Alongside the classical four-herb idea it carries supporting Deepana-Pachana (digestive) and Grahi (absorbent) dravyas.

This is the genuine Shree Shanker Ayurvedic Pharmacy preparation (GMP- and ISO-certified facility), supplied by Riddhish Herbals with a bill and doctor-guided selection. The composition below is reproduced from the approved pack.

The classical Balachaturbhadra Sanskara

Balachaturbhadra (Bala = child, Chatur = four, Bhadra = auspicious/beneficial) is one of the best-known classical Kaumarabhritya (Ayurvedic paediatric) formulations. It is first described in Chakradatta and appears again in Bhaishajya Ratnavali and Yoga Ratnakara, classically indicated in Balaroga — the childhood presentations of Jwara (fever), Atisara (loose motions), Chhardi (vomiting) and Kasa (cough).

The four herbs are Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Pippali (Piper longum), Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) and Karkatashringi (Pistacia integerrima), classically given with Madhu (honey) as the anupana. Ativisha here is Aconitum heterophyllum — the classically non-poisonous Aconite species traditionally regarded as safe for children, distinct from the toxic Vatsanabha. These classical indications are stated as a matter of textual record; they are not medical claims, and the dose for a child is always set by your Vaidya.

Research on the Constituents

Nagarajan, Kuruvilla, Kumar & Venkatasubramanian (2015)Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine 6(2):121-133. A peer-reviewed review of the pharmacology of Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) and Musta (Cyperus rotundus) — two of the four classical Balachaturbhadra herbs — noting their traditionally described antipyretic, carminative and Grahi (absorbent) actions in Ayurveda. No. GA/1153; manufactured by Shree Shanker Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Changodar, Ahmedabad, in a GMP- and ISO-certified facility. 'Avyatha' is a classical synonym of Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum); 'Vakhamo' is the vernacular for Vacha (Acorus calamus); 'Chapla' is shown exactly as printed, without a botanical, since the pack gives none. Variable data (batch, mfg/expiry, printed MRP) lives on the physical pack.

How to Use

Traditionally taken with Madhu (honey) as the anupana. Give as directed by your Ayurvedic physician (Vaidya), who sets the correct age-appropriate dose for your child. A paediatric dose is not printed here on purpose — it belongs with your Vaidya.

Who Can Use It

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Balachaturbhadra?

Balachaturbhadra (also written Bal Chaturbhadra / Balchaturbhadra) is a classical Ayurvedic Kaumarabhritya (paediatric) formulation of four herbs — Musta, Pippali, Ativisha and Karkatashringi — described in Chakradatta and Bhaishajya Ratnavali, traditionally given to children with honey.

What does Bal Bhadra Churna contain?

See the label-verified composition table on this page — it is reproduced exactly from the approved pack.

Is the Ativisha in this safe for children?

The Ativisha used in Balachaturbhadra is Aconitum heterophyllum, the classically non-poisonous Aconite species that Ayurvedic texts specifically regard as suitable for children — different from the toxic Aconite (Vatsanabha). As with any paediatric medicine, give it only under a qualified Ayurvedic physician's guidance.

What are the alternate names / spellings?

Balachaturbhadra is also written Bal Chaturbhadra, Balchaturbhadra, Bala Chaturbhadra or Bal Bhadra. The four-herb classical churna is the reference formulation; proprietary syrups and churnas may add supporting herbs.

How is it traditionally given?

Classically it is given to children with Madhu (honey) as the anupana. The correct age-appropriate dose is set by your Ayurvedic physician (Vaidya); follow the pack or your Vaidya's advice.

Is Bal Bhadra Churna genuine at Riddhish Herbals?

Yes. This is the genuine Shree Shanker Ayurvedic Pharmacy product, supplied by Riddhish Herbals with a bill and doctor-guided selection since 2015, with pan-India delivery.

Has Balachaturbhadra been studied scientifically?

Yes. A peer-reviewed review in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine examined the pharmacology of Ativisha and Musta, two of its four herbs. See the research note on this page.

How should I store it?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, keep the pack tightly closed, and keep out of reach of children except at dosing time.

How is the churna different from the syrup?

The churna is the traditional powder form, taken with honey; the syrup is a palatable ready-to-use liquid. Both sit in the Balachaturbhadra children's tradition — choose by your child's preference and your Vaidya's advice.
