Rasashastra — What Shodhana and Kupipakwa Actually Do
This capsule contains Rasa Sindura and Rasa Karpura, and we name both openly in the composition table below. What they are, however, is frequently misdescribed — so it is worth being precise, because precision is the whole point of Rasashastra.
Rasa Sindura is not Parada. It is made by triturating purified Parada with purified Gandhaka into Kajjali, then subjecting that to Kupipakwa — graded heating in a sealed Kupi within the Valuka Yantra over many hours. What sublimates and settles at the neck of the flask is a new substance. X-ray diffraction identifies it as α-mercuric sulphide — cinnabar, a nanocrystalline compound, one of the most insoluble substances known to chemistry. To call the finished medicine ‘a metal’ is to describe the ingredient list of a furnace and call it steel.
Rasa Karpura is a different preparation entirely, arrived at by a different classical route and governed by its own Shodhana discipline and its own dose limits. Rasashastra does not regard the two as interchangeable, and neither do we. Each classical preparation is what its own Samskara makes it — which is exactly why the tradition names them separately, and why the quantities in this formulation are small, specific and fixed.
The Bhasmas follow the same logic. Shodhana (purification) and Marana (incineration through repeated Puta cycles, with herbal Bhavana at each stage) convert Tamra, Abhraka, Suvarna and the gem Bhasmas into fine, assimilable oxide and sulphide forms. This is a pharmaceutical science with a documented literature stretching back well over a thousand years, and modern instrumentation has repeatedly confirmed what the classical texts asserted: the process changes the substance.
Safety Assessment — SDM Centre for Research in Ayurveda, Udupi

Virgo UAP Pharma put Cruel Plus Capsule through an acute oral toxicity study at the Pharmacology Laboratory, SDM Centre for Research in Ayurveda and Allied Sciences, Udupi — one of India's established Ayurvedic research institutions — under Project Director Dr. B. Ravishankar, former Director of the Centre and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, and among the senior pharmacologists working in Ayurveda in this country. The work was run to OECD Test Guideline 425, the international standard protocol, in Wistar albino rats with a 14-day observation period.
No mortality was recorded at any dose up to 2000 mg/kg by mouth — a level the investigators equate to roughly 22.4 g for a 70 kg adult, some 28 times the ordinary daily dose. Mild increases in motor and rearing activity were noted at the two higher dose levels. All animals survived the observation period.
The study was sponsored by Virgo UAP Pharma and the sponsorship is named on the report itself. It is an acute study — it establishes the single-dose safety margin, which is what OECD 425 is designed to establish, and it does not speak to long-term use. We state its scope precisely because we are not going to overstate it. But we will not understate it either: commissioning independent pharmacological testing of a classical Rasaushadhi is expensive, logistically hard, and something very few Indian Ayurvedic manufacturers bother to do at all. The Formulation, and What the Classical Texts Record
Suvarna Bhasma (gold) — 4 mg. Gold processed through the classical Shodhana and Marana protocols. It is referenced in the Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam and Rasaratna Samuccaya, where it is described as Medhya, Rasayana and Balya. Statements of classical record, with their sources named.
Abhrak Bhasma, 1000 Puti — 2 mg. Mica taken through a thousand calcination cycles. The Rasendra Chudamani regards the Puti count as a purity marker; 1000 Puti is the highest classical grade.
Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) — 30 mg. Classically called Amrita, and named in the Charaka Samhita among the foremost Rasayana dravyas.
Shuddha Guggulu (Commiphora wightii) — 60 mg, the largest single herbal quantity, classically described as Lekhana. Haridra (Curcuma longa) — 40 mg. Kanchanar (Bauhinia variegata) — 40 mg and Rohitak (Tecomella undulata) — 30 mg, both carrying classical references in the Samhitas. Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) — 25 mg, described in the Charaka Samhita as Shothahara.
